Meet the Salesmen of Bielat Santore & Company

Earlier in the year, we introduced you to two of our competitive salesmen, Joseph Denker and Robert Gillis. As we have added two more highly-skilled and reputable salesmen to our sales team, David, A. Alvarez and James Gutentag, we thought we’d introduce them in the same fashion. Meet the latest salesmen to join Bielat Santore & Company below along with some personal information they were brave enough to share.

David A. Alvarez

David A. Alvarez, graduated Cliffside Park High School and studied Business Administration at Ramapo College in Mahwah. He became an entrepreneur with extensive experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry. At the young age of 25, Mr. Alvarez co-developed and co-owned the very popular Romanza restaurant in River Vale, New Jersey and sold it for over $2,000,000 within five years. He also founded, owned and operated Banchetto Feast, Nanuet, New York and Banchetto Feast, Westwood, New Jersey.

Early on Mr. Alvarez realized that owning and operating a restaurant was a business and not a hobby. He considers a restaurant owner no different than a music icon. Both stay in business only by constantly changing to satisfy their audiences and to attract new audiences. As a restaurant owner for over 20 years, Mr. Alvarez understands the complexities of the industry. He is familiar with all of the day-to-day operations of running a restaurant including, but not limited to, concept development and implementation, accounting, food costing, payroll and risk management.

Intrigued with the real estate experience he gained developing his own restaurants and negotiating leases with large commercial real estate companies like Simon Properties, Mr. Alvarez decided to obtain his New Jersey State Real Estate license and focus on helping restaurant owners who are looking to sell or buy restaurants. He recently joining Bielat Santore & Company as a real estate agent.

His primary territories for business are Bergen and Passaic counties.

What are your hobbies?
Indoor and outdoor cycling. In 2015, I took first place riding over 1,500 miles in a four week national competition with over 100,000 riders. It was managed nationally by LIFETIME ATHLETIC.

Favorite food? Music? Band?
Food made with the freshest ingredients; Andrea Bocelli; The Boss, Bruce Springsteen.

What’s something people may not know about you?
In the late 90s, I opened my first restaurant. I worked an average of 100 hours per week for the first two years in business. I ended up in the hospital due to exhaustion and dehydration.

Name one thing that you learned in the business that has been impactful to your success.
Success is measured by the effort.

James “Jimmy” Gutentag

James “Jimmy” Gutentag’s 40 years in the hospitality industry as well as knowledge of the lay of the land, residing in Northern New Jersey his entire life, provides comfort for his clients while speaking with a fellow restaurateur.

After graduating from American University in Washington D.C. with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Finance, Mr. Gutentag accelerated the success of his family’s owned and operated food business which then transitioned to the opening of an additional retail store. He later became the sole-proprietor of his well-known off-premise catering company, James Caterers and a wholesale manufacturing private label division providing high-quality foods to gourmet markets in the tri-state area.

Before Bielat Santore & Company had the privilege of adding him to their sales team, Mr. Gutentag was managing high-volume banquet facilities as well as consulting to catering venues. Eager to help his customers from the other side of the desk, Mr. Gutentag obtained his New Jersey State Real Estate license and in June 2018, he took on the role of Licensed Real Estate Sales agent at the commercial real estate company.

His primary territories for business are Morris and Essex counties.

What are your hobbies?
Cooking; Construction Projects/Handyman

Favorite food? Music? Band?
Chicken – Connoisseur of great fried chicken; I enjoy all types of music genres.

Name one thing that you learned in the business that has been impactful to your success.
Honesty

Who are your role models? 
My father (Bob Gutentag) for his entrepreneurial accomplishments and guidance; Emeril Lagasse – he uses the phrase “kick it up a notch” that I believe for everything that I do.

Something that people may not know about you…
I started my career as a chef/proprietor of a gourmet high-quality retail food and catering operation. I have an expert palette. I can taste something and duplicate the flavor without a recipe.

Favorite family vacation destination?
Greece and Italy
